Volunteer Placements
We
want to make sure that our volunteers have a positive experience, and that they
are engaging in activities that interest them. To help us achieve this, every
volunteer will complete a register of interest form before they start their
placement. This will be done at an informal one-to-one meeting with the
Volunteer Co-ordinator, during which the volunteer can tell us what areas they
are interested in. From this, the Volunteer Co-ordinator will match the
volunteer with an appropriate placement.
Many of the volunteers who come
through the centre have been placed with the East End Internet Broadcast, which
offers multimedia and broadcasting opportunities. However, placements have also
been found in other areas such as childcare and youth work. We are always happy
to welcome new volunteers, and if they have other areas of interest we will
always try to accommodate them if possible.
Volunteers will always be
able to work at their own pace, and only be given tasks appropriate to their
level of experience. If there is any way in which they feel they would like to
contribute further, they should contact the Volunteer Co-ordinator and other
options can be explored.
We try to accommodate them if there is a
specific project they would like to undertake. Where volunteers are placed with
EEIB, the main thing is that the work should contribute to the broadcast in some
way, and should not be solely for their own use or benefit. While we are happy
to use a variety of material, the content should be appropriate to the ethos of
the broadcast.
